Rising on the south-western corner of the Plaza San Francisco, the Renaissance-inspired building also combines
Neo-Classical elements over its three floors – since the architect of the 1920s version was of Italian origin.
Within, the interiors are beautifully appointed, either adapted from the original or, as is the case with the
painted tin ceilings, lovingly and painstakingly restored. The present classic design with touches of contemporary
chic, takes full advantage of the mansions elegant, tall windows, drawing the bright, Andean light into every
suite, while providing exceptional views of the Square, the Panecillo hillside and the interior patio. Even these
windows have respected the style of the era, while today being double-glazed for sound proofing.
Spaces for relaxation and quiet corners for contemplation abound as the house is designed around its central
patio: the wood-panelled library, the glass-roofed central patio, the ground-floor café and restaurant perfectly
located for watching everyday life in the Plaza, the garden with its displays of flowers, orchids and ornamental
plants... Perhaps best of all, the roof-top terrace provides wrap-around views of Quitos Old Town and the best
seats in the house for enjoying Plaza San Franciscos many religious processions and festivities.
