<![CDATA[<P>The history of Casona de San Miguel
I have very fond memories of the mansion on the square. When I
was little, my godmother used to take me to Mass in the nearby
Chapel of Cantuña. Afterwards, we would go for tea in the big house
on the corner with her friends. It seemed very grand. Its amazing to
think that years later I am part of the team behind the creation of a
hotel in the very same house. I love the idea that we will be
welcoming guests into the same house that welcomed me.

The Casona de San Miguel occupies a pivotal place in Quitos
historic heart, at the corner of Plaza San Francisco. Its history
stretches back to the time of the Incas. According to the early
Spanish chroniclers, in the 15th century the square featured Inca
temples, one of them on the site of the present house.
As soon as the Spanish arrived in the Incas northern capital in
1534, the religious orders soon set about converting the hearts and
minds of the local population. Thus the Franciscan order occupied </p>
